This past Monday, Downers Grove South hosted the 20th annual Mustang Relays, at the North Central College Indoor Track with many of the best teams in the state in attendance. Our very own Glenbrook North 4x800m relay placed 26th out of 31 teams with a season’s best time of 8:35.11. Leading us off was John Ihrke (Sr) giving us a fairly comfortable lead with new season PR and a speedy split of 1:57.6. Following his lead off leg, John handed off the baton to Joseph Considine (Sr) who ran a PR of 2:12.1 and then handed it to Tucker Roth (Jr) who also ran a new PR of 2:13.6. After Tucker, the baton was handed off to Cormick Buti (Jr) who ran a PR of 2:11.7 and finished the team out in 9th out of 10 teams in the 2nd fastest heat.

Later on in the evening the Glenbrook North 4x200m relay drops our best placement of the evening getting 11th out of 28 teams running a seasons best time (and possibly an indoor school record) of 1:35.39. Leading them off was Ebin Fladeland (Jr) running a 23.6, who then handed it off to his twin brother Aiden Fladeland (Jr) who ran a 23.7. After him Trevor Bowles (Sr) ran a 24.2 and in the process tore a hole in the side of his spike but still managed to get the baton to our anchor leg, Eli Kahn (Jr) who brought it home with a 23.8.

The final event of the night was the boys 4x400m relay in which our team got 14th out of 29 teams with a season’s best time of 3:36.11. Our relay was started out by Justin Greif (Jr) coming out of the blocks running a PR of 56.2 who then handed it off to his teammate Matteo Gatchalian (Jr) who ran a PR of 54.2. After the two juniors got us into good positioning the baton fell into the hands of Trevor Bowles who was racing in new spikes after he ripped a hole in his during the 4x200m relay. Trevor ran his two laps with a season PR of 53.8 and then gave the baton to John Ihrke to bring it home. John was able to close in an absolutely blazing 51.8 seconds to finish the team off in 5th for our heat.

Amazing job by everyone and a special thanks to the coaches and Matthew Rubin (Sr) for accompanying and cheering on all those competing.
